@Calais01

The piano is massively underrated in this song. Brilliant.

@LukeMaynard

The question is not whether or not this version is "better than the original." It's a question of whether, having already DONE the original, Clapton could come up with some way of doing the song that made it WORTH having a second recording of it in his major-album catalogue.

It doesn't matter whether you prefer this version, with its perfect moody swagger, or the original with Duane's soaring slide and the incredible piano coda by the tragically troubled Jim Gordon. What matters is that each version gives us something that the other doesn't, making BOTH versions of the song indispensable. I can't think of another artist who has done such a powerful transformative cover of their own song. Maybe Mark Knopfler, in his 1986 "Calypso verison" of So far Away, comes close. But this is a one-of-a-kind redux.

@Crotes1990

Literally this specific recording of Layla made me want to play guitar. 20 years later I'm still playing

@shipster9085

my hero: the guy who went "woooo" in the solo. best "wooo" ever in the history of live music.

@ostermanumbrellaco.7445

“See If You Can Spot This One” will always be lyrics that’s part of the song to me

@thejazzman210

This is definitely the coolest version of this song.

@DimitrisBor

When I first seen this as a kid 30 years ago I said that someday I’m going to learn the guitar just to play this song. Glad I can say I finally did it.

@1stgenracer

i dont care how many times ive heard this song or ever will, it gives me goosebumps EVERYTIME. This is a timeless classic that can never be lost.

@aluxifer1534

definitely the best version of layla.

@jackhogan4090

Apparently everyone's dad is the guy who goes "whoo!" in the solo.

@duchenne_md6736

This version is superior. Best Eric Clapton song. Gives me chills!

@sgtmerker2401

My dad's been gone for almost 8 yrs. (motorcycle accident) This is how we stay in touch....miss you pops

@AlexBrown-xp7mt

The piano work at 02:45 is absolutely elite.

@sunshinenblues

i am always and forever amazed at this version of Layla...it was the first time i listened to an unplugged over an electric version and i know why now. the rhythm and bass and lyrics all make better sense as a love song than a rock song! love eric always for eternity

@chetanmeshram2985

I come here everyday, to feel happy for 4 min of my life.

@jawadlens5119

The speed his fingers play the solo is just incredible. My cousin used to play it everyday as kids. This never gets old.

2025❤

@aronkelley8634

Yes Mr Clapton, we can spot your greatness!!💙😎🔥🎸

@Brian-ew6sv

It's been playing in my head five straight days. Best song ever

@ando1135

Love this version, it highlights the chorus much better than the original

@scottburton9701

Loved Eric's unplugged version of this all-time classic.
