I have one of these too. A little better condition than yours but the battery is dead. (by the way the battery should just pull out)
I am going to try the 3.2v 14500 type which I hope will fit in the case, if I can open it.
So far it doesn't look likely. I can't get into my shed as its winter and too cold. But I am 83.
