FELLING A DINOSAUR OF A TREE! The 500i our favorite saw helping us cut this big and rotten maple. These trees can make you nervous for sure. We ended up installing a line into a leader with healthy wood to help pull this monster over. All of the weight was road side so we definitely needed it, along with some wedges and a double hinge in the face. With all of the rot we were seeing in the main stem, we were sure glad to have a solid hinge to work with. We considered climbing it to remove some of the weight from the backside but ultimately it came down to time and productivity. After our risk assessment we decided that it could be felled with the right set up.
